4 suspects in P1M jewelry heist nabbed in Passi City

ILOILO CITY — The police arrested in separate operations on Tuesday, four suspects in the P1-million jewelry heist at a pawnshop in Passi City, Iloilo.

Ramil Ajeno, 35; Remuel Lopez, 25; and Ramona Panes, 49,  were cornered in the house of Panes in Pototan town, Iloilo, about 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

Taken inside Panes’ house were at least P300,000 worth of jewelry taken from the Christine and Grace Pawnshop in Passi City during the robbery on Feb. 11.

The rest of the jewelry were still being accounted for.

Another suspect, Glen Ajeno, 20, was collared in his cousin’s house in Carles town, Iloilo, about 11:30 a.m., on Tuesday, by members of the Iloilo Provincial Police Office and Passi police station.

Glen and Ramil, who are cousins, were identified through the footage taken from closed circuit television cameras during the robbery of the Christine and Grace Pawnshop.

Supt. Adrian Acollador, Passi police chief, said they received a tip about the presence of the suspects who reportedly bragged about pulling off a robbery without getting caught, to their drinking buddies.

They followed the tip, which led to the arrest of the three suspects who later squealed on the location of their other companion, Glen.  SFM
