Grateful Poe on Laylo poll lead: ‘I owe this to the Filipino people’

After topping another survey released on the first day of the official campaign period, Senator Grace Poe expressed her gratitude on Tuesday to the Filipino people, who she said continue to believe that she has the capacity to lead the country.

“I owe this top ranking in The Standard-Laylo survey to the Filipino people, who continue to put their faith in my capacity to lead the country. They are my driving force in being unflinching in fighting for change and in pushing an inclusive platform for a progressive and just society,” Poe said in a statement.

“I look forward to coming face to face with more of our kababayan (fellow countrymen) in the campaign period,” she said.

Poe was reacting to the latest survey conducted by pollster Junie Laylo for The Standard from January 27 to February 4, which showed that 29 percent of the total 3,000 respondents would pick her as the country’s next president.

Trailing behind Poe are Vice President Jejomar Binay and administration bet, former Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, with 22 percent; Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte with 20 percent and Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago with two percent.

Furthermore, Poe was the voters’ choice for president in another survey conducted by The Pulse Asia from January 24 to 28.

The Pulse Asia survey showed that 30 percent of the 1,800 respondents would vote for Poe for president, followed by Binay with 23 percent, Roxas and Duterte with 20 percent and Santiago with 4 percent. RAM
