Comelec offers QC voters a taste of May polls

Bautista leads Comelec's mock setup of voting center

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has conducted a demonstration on how the actual voting process will happen in the May 9, 2016 national elections.

The Comelec put up a mock setup of a voting center with signs on the processes of the voting system at the Pura Kalaw Elementary School on P. Tuazon Street, Cubao, Quezon City.

Signage on where voters should go before and after casting their votes were also provided including legal help desks.

”We want voters to experience firsthand what to expect on May 9, 2016. We are doing our best to improve the voting experience in public schools where the larger public will be trooping to vote, while we also continue to iron details of mall voting,” Comelec Chair Andres Bautista said.

Election Officer Eric Santos of the Quezon City District 3 said the mock setup would help them identify what needs to be improved in the voting process.

“Natutuwa kami at sa distrito namin ginawa itong mock setup dahil nabigyan ang mga botante dito ng pagkakataong makita ang improvements sa ating voting centers sa darating na halalan. Mahalaga na may live simulation ng election day para makita namin kung ano pa ang maaaring ayusin sa ating signages at idagdag sa ating mga paghahanda para sa halalan,” Santos said.

Bautista said the mock setup was important to bring transparency and credibility to the elections.

”We believe that the voters’ trust in our democracy is hinged on the transparency and credibility of our elections and that the voting center is the primary arena for change. We want to have better organized polling places so we can minimize confusion and long queues. If people know what to expect on Election Day, it’s easy for them to spot irregularities, if any, report the same to us immediately via our hotline and/or helpdesks,” he said.
