Vintage bomb found at Olongapo residential area

OLONGAPO CITY- A vintage artillery bomb was dug up at a residential area in Barangay (village) New Cabalan here on Wednesday, police said.

The bomb, which measures 100 millimeters in diameter and 1.7 feet in length, was unearthed at a construction site of a private lot at 10:30 a.m., said Insp. Vivianne Reyes, deputy station commander of police station 6 here.

Reyes said personnel of the Explosive Ordnance Division of the city police office recovered the old weapon.

“The bomb, although old, could still explode if not properly handled,” Reyes said.

She said a follow-up investigation is trying to determine the origin of the bomb.

Earlier (Jan. 28), a rusty hand grenade was found by a scavenger in the city’s sanitary landfill area in the same village.
