MANILA, Philippines—An old bomb apparently from World War II was dug up Thursday morning at a work site on the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman campus.

The Quezon City Police District’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit described the find as a corroded 155-mm projectile, which was found by two workers as they were installing underground fiber-optic cables on Fernandez Street, near the east wing of Palma Hall.

In 2008, then UP College of Science Dean Caesar Saloma advised faculty, staff, students and visitors to steer clear of construction sites around the National Science Complex after more than 30 “stray World War II bombs” were unearthed in the area, mostly from only a meter below ground level.

The QCPD-EOD has earlier recorded 60 “vintage bombs” and ammunition recovered from the campus, with the last—a 25-pound drop bomb—found in February 2013 at a construction site near Acacia Residence Hall and Centennial Dormitory.
