Poe on citizenship of children: ‘I give them the right to choose’

Senator Grace Poe said on Thursday that she will give her children the right to choose whether or not they would give up their dual citizenship should she be elected as the country’s next president.

Facing Inquirer reporters and editors in the Meets Inquirer Multimedia on Thursday, Poe said that she will not force her three children to renounce their citizenship amid attacks on her citizenship which has been a ground of the various disqualification cases against her.

Poe said: “I give them the right to choose. This is the essence of being a parent responsible for their children.”

On the citizenship of her husband, Poe said that he remains a natural-born citizen and that he is now in the process of renouncing his American citizenship.

Poe’s critics have slammed her and her family for supposedly being not loyal to the country by not renouncing their dual citizenship.
