DOLE helps 50 kin of 44 slain SAF troops get jobs

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has provided employment assistance to the direct families of the 44 members of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) troops who were killed in the Jan. 25, 2015 Mamasapano clash in Maguindanao.

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said that some 50 “family member-beneficiaries” of the 44 slain officers have requested for help in finding jobs and have been provided “employment facilitation assistance” from the DOLE.

“Of the 50 family members who requested for employment, 25, or 50 percent have been placed as of January 2016; 15, or 30 percent, are still in the various stages of their application, while 10, or 20 percent, have withdrawn or cancelled their requests (or expressed disinterest in wage employment),” Baldoz said in a statement.

Earlier, Baldoz also reported that the DOLE has awarded P445,000 in livelihood assistance to 16 of 19 beneficiaries of the SAF 44, and facilitated the release of P979,755 in employee compensation benefits under the Employees Compensation Program.

Among those who were already placed and are presently employed are:

* Wilfred and Presca Carap, brother and sister, respectively, of slain SAF trooper, PO2 Peterson Carap of Villafuerta, San Mateo, Isabela, who are now working at the local government unit of Kabayan as intern under the Government Internship Program (GIP) and as job order clerk, respectively;

*  Anselmo Golocan Jr., the brother of fallen SAF trooper, PO3 Noel Golocan of South Sanitary Camp, Baguio City, is now a laboratory aide II at the Department of Public Works and Highways–CAR; and,

*  Aurelyn Kayob, the wife of fallen SAF trooper, PO2 Jerry Kayob of Tawang, La Trinidad, Benguet, is now gainfully employed as teacher at the La Trinidad Elementary School after the DOLE-CAR endorsed her application to the DepEd Division Office of Benguet.

The DOLE is also helping 15 family-beneficiaries get jobs under the employment facilitation assistance and services because they have requested for help.

The DOLE, through the TESDA, has provided skills training to other family members of the slain SAF troopers.  SFM
