SC TRO will do pro-Grace voters a favor — Trillanes

/ 04:35 PM December 28, 2015

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV believes the Supreme Court (SC) will take the cudgels for Filipino voters by issuing a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) versus the Commission on Election’s (Comelec) decision disqualifying Senator Grace Poe from the 2016 presidential race.

This, as the former Navy lieutenant-turned-senator reiterated that the lady lawmaker is qualified to become Philippine president and run for the position in May 2016.

“We’re expecting the SC to issue a TRO so that it could stop the railroading of Comelec. Grace Poe is qualified to be president of this country,” said Trillanes.

He noted that a favorable SC decision for Poe would ensure that the Filipino people would retain the right to decide on their own future — as the case should be.

“Let her run and let the people decide,” said the Nacionalista Party (NP) senator who earlier vowed support for Poe’s candidacy. Trillanes is vying for the vice presidency next year.

Earlier Monday, Poe’s lawyer George Garcia formalized the 47-year-old foundling’s appeal for a TRO after the Comelec en banc ruled to disqualify her last week.

The en banc decision was promulgated in the middle of the Christmas break, preventing Poe’s legal team to immediately seek SC intervention.

Comelec Chairman Andy Bautista earlier gave a Tuesday deadline for Poe to get a TRO, or else her name won’t be included in the printing of election ballots.
