Coldest day yet this December in Metro Manila recorded at 20C

The temperature dropped to 20 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila on Sunday and Monday, the lowest since the northeast monsoon started in November.

Jun Galang of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the temperature was recorded at 6:30 am on Monday and 5 am on Sunday.

“It is expected to go lower in January but not too low because of the El Nino phenomenon,” he said over the phone.

The coldest temperature ever recorded in Metro Manila was at 14.9 degrees Celsius on March 1, 1963.

Cooler days usually peak in January and February in the Philippines due to the prevailing northeast monsoon.

Baguio City, meanwhile, where coldest temperature in the country is usually recorded, dipped to 13 degrees Celsius last December 23. It was the lowest temperature recorded since November.

Galang said there will also be no weather disturbance in the country until the year ends.
