Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero, vice presidential running mate of Sen. Grace Poe, is hopeful that the Supreme Court will reverse the decision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to disqualify the latter from the 2016 presidential elections.
“I expect the Supreme Court to resolve Sen. Grace Poe’s petitions expeditiously so we can move forward and proceed with our campaign,” Escudero said in a statement on Monday.
Earlier in the day, Poe went to the Supreme Court to contest the rulings of the Comelec. It was the first working day after Christmas.

Poe’s certificate of candidacy (COC) was canceled by the Comelec’s first division due to questions on her citizenship and residency. Meanwhile, Comelec’s second division also rejected Poe’s COC for failing to meet the required 10-year residency for presidential candidates.
“I trust that our Magistrates’ unquestionable wisdom and integrity will once and for all settle questions surrounding Sen. Poe’s qualifications to seek the highest post in the land,” Escudero said, expressing confidence that they will “uphold the truth.”
He said he was standing by Poe and maintained that she is qualified to run for president next year.
“Let us not allow baseless allegations being floated by malicious minds to once again succeed and supersede the very heart of the issue here, which is the right of Sen. Poe, a foundling, to run for office,” Escudero said. RAM
