Makati City brings back New Year’s Eve countdown

GET READY.

After two years of forgoing the event, the Makati government has announced that it would be holding a New Year’s Eve countdown in the city.

The traditional year-end celebration was postponed in 2013 and last year in deference to the victims of Typhoon “Ruby” and Supertyphoon “Yolanda.”

In a statement, the city government said the 2016 countdown dubbed “Shout” would be held at the University of Makati Track and Field Oval starting at 4 p.m. on Dec. 31 up to 3 a.m. of the first day of 2016.

Visitors will be welcomed by food concessionaires, vendors’ booths and street magicians, among others, it added.

Popular personalities expected to grace the event were disc jockey Nicole Hyala, Robi Domingo, Bamboo, The Dawn, Gloc-9, Kyla, KZ Tandingan and Ella Cruz.

“There will be child stars for kids and families to enjoy; pop performers and teen stars for teenagers; top bands and DJs who will be playing popular modern hits for yuppies; and retro bands that will be playing the music of the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s,” the statement said.

The event will be capped by a 15-minute “grand fireworks display” after the midnight countdown.

“Meanwhile, the after-party program (until 3 a.m. of Jan. 1) will be filled with music by the country’s premier DJs, such as DJ Ace Ramos with MC Pao and DJ X-factor,” it said.

According to the statement, the event is “strictly off-limits” to pregnant women, those who are sick, and children below 3 feet for safety and security purposes.
