Teasing leaves man dead in Tondo
A 47-YEAR-OLD man was shot to death in Tondo, Manila, on Sunday afternoon over a misunderstanding involving P20, a policeman said Monday.
Melencio Alcade died of multiple gunshot wounds in the chest, according to SPO2 Jonathan Bautista of the Manila Police District’s homicide division.
The policeman added that Alcade refused to run away or even back down as Alfredo Teñoso, 38, shot him in front of his house around 1 p.m. Sunday.
Bautista said that despite Alcalde’s wounds to the chest, he walked toward Teñoso as the latter was firing his gun.
“When [Teñoso] saw this, he ran away before the victim could [come] near him,” Bautista said.
The two men who were neighbors had no history of being at odds with each other, except for Sunday’s misunderstanding between Alcade and the suspect’s son, King.

When King went home, however, he told his father what happened, resulting in Teñoso going to Alcade’s house and shooting the victim. Aie Balagtas See
Estrada still coy on bet for presidency
MANILA Mayor Joseph Estrada remained coy on Monday when reporters asked him whom he would support for President in 2016.
“My endorsement would go to waste if the President I choose is disqualified,” Estrada said in jest after a program at Liwasang Bonifacio marking the 152nd birthday of Andres Bonifacio, the Supremo of the Katipunan.
He did not clarify whom he was referring to although among the candidates, only Grace Poe is facing disqualification cases due to questions over her citizenship and residency.
Estrada, however, reiterated to reporters that he has yet to choose whom among those running for President would receive his support.
He would only say that the perfect candidate was someone who would prioritize the peace and order situation in the country as well as the interest of the masses.
“I will endorse the one who will deliver the greater good for the greatest number—the masses which compose the majority of the population),” Estrada said.
Asked if the formal entry into the race of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte posed a serious threat to the presidential ambitions of other aspirants, he told reporters that as of now, he has no way of telling as he has yet to examine the candidates’ platforms. Dexter Cabalza
