Ex-Iloilo Gov. Niel Tupas Sr. passes away at 82
ILOILO CITY—Former Iloilo Gov. Niel Tupas Sr. died of a lingering illness Tuesday at 1:35 a.m. at the Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City. Tupas would have been celebrating his 83rd birthday on Friday.
The former governor, the patriarch of one of Iloilo’s dominant political clans, has been confined at the hospital for about a month according to his youngest child, Iloilo City councilor Nielex Tupas.

Tupas, a close ally of President Benigno Aquino III in the Liberal Party, was Iloilo governor from 2001 to 2010.
He also served as representative of Iloilo’s 5th congressional district and assemblyman in the Batasang Pambansa. RAM
