Ex-Iloilo Governor Tupas posts bail over P4-M graft case
Former Iloilo Gov. Niel Tupas Sr. has posted bail before the Sandiganbayan over a graft charge.
In a resolution dated Sept. 21, the Sandiganbayan fifth division lifted the arrest warrant against Tupas after he appeared before the antigraft court on Monday.
Tupas, an administration ally and the father of Iloilo Rep. Niel Tupas Jr., posted a bond of P30,000 for provisional liberty in relation to the payment of unconsumed electricity to a power supplier worth P4 million.
“Today, Niel D. Tupas Sr. … personally appeared and posted cash bail bond for his provisional liberty in the amount of P30,000.
“In view thereof, the order of arrest dated Sept. 16 issued in this case is hereby lifted and declared no further force and effect in so far as accused Niel D. Tupas Sr. only,” the court said.
