Airport security tightened for ‘Oplan Undas’

THE MANILA International Airport Authority (MIAA) will maximize the deployment of security personnel for the anticipated surge in passengers for Nov. 1 and 2.

MIAA General Manager Jose Angel Honrado said none of the Airport Police Department’s (APD) personnel would be allowed to go on leave during the implementation of “Oplan Undas.”

Honrado pointed out that a daily average of 50,000 passengers were expected to fly out of Manila starting today (Tuesday).

“At the heart of Oplan Undas is the passenger. We want to make sure that traveling will be as hassle-free as possible as we observe the solemnity of the occasion,” he said.

While the APD and the Aviation Security Group will secure the immediate vicinity of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and local traffic enforcers will man major roads leading to the four airport terminals. Jeannette I. Andrade
