The late Manuel Conde, a director and Natatanging Gawad Urian awardee, marked his 96th birth anniversary on October 9. Manuel Urbano in real life, he was the father of Jun Urbano who is more popularly known as “Mr. Shooli.” Best remembered for his “Juan Tamad” series, Conde was also an actor, scriptwriter and producer. His movie “Genghis Khan” was the first Filipino film distributed worldwide by United Artists. The critically acclaimed film was also shown at the Venice Film Festival and Edinburgh Film Festival.
