TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Philippines — Councilor Cristina “Kring-Kring” Romualdez is running for mayor of Tacloban City to replace her husband, Mayor Alfred Romualdez, who is on his last term.
Cristina filed her certificate of candidacy at 3:18 p.m. on Friday under the Nacionalista Party at the Commission on Elections Tacloban City office.
Her running mate filed his certificate of candidacy (CoC) through his lawyer in the nick of time.
Irene Chiu, lawyer of former councilor Jeric Dane Granados, filed his CoC at 4:40 p.m., 20 minutes before the filing of CoCs officially ended.
Granados, a nurse by profession, was councilor from 2010 to 2013.
The Romualdezes consider Tacloban as their main political bailiwick in Leyte.
The wife of outgoing Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez of Leyte’s 1st district is running to replace her husband in his seat in Congress.
The CoC of Yedda Marie Romualdez, 41, was submitted by her lawyer Butch Corpin and political aid, Glenn Capucion, at the Comelec office on Friday morning.
The former beauty queen from Cebu, who gave birth last month, is running under Lakas-CMD.
