Gullases of Cebu back Roxas’ presidential bid
CEBU CITY, Philippines — A political veteran and his grandson filed their certificates of candidacy (CoCs) at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office on Tuesday morning.
Eduardo Gullas, former Cebu 1st district representative, 75, accompanied by his entire slate, filed his COC past 8 a.m.
He is running for mayor in Talisay City under the Alayon-Nacionalista party.
His grandson, 1st district Rep. Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas, also filed his COC for another term at past 9 a.m. at the Comelec provincial office in Cebu City.
Although they are allied with the Nacionalista Party, the Gullases are supporting the presidential bid of former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas and the LP candidates for governor and vice governor in Cebu.
Article continues after this advertisementThe elder Gullas will try to redeem himself after he lost in the 2013 mayoral race to now Talisay City Mayor Johnny delos Reyes, who is expected to seek reelection.
Article continues after this advertisementOn the other hand, the 36-year old congressman of the 6th district of Cebu, Gabriel Luis “Luigi” Quisumbing, will try his luck in the mayoral race in Mandaue City.
Quisumbing filed his CoC with his entire slate at past 8 a.m. at the Comelec office in Mandaue City under the LP banner.
Quisumbing was accompanied by outgoing Mayor Jonas Cortes who will run for congressman.
Quisumbing’s family owns the Norkis Group of Companies, which is based in Mandaue City. SFM
