CITY OF MALOLOS—Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado on Wednesday placed Bulacan under a state of calamity due to a rise in dengue cases in the province that had killed 11 people.

The declaration of the calamity state was recommended by the provincial board to help the provincial government access a P39-million calamity fund to fight dengue.

Of the 4,771 dengue cases recorded from January to September this year, 11 patients have died, according to the provincial epidemiology surveillance unit.

Alvarado said the provincial government may subsidize the hospitalization and medication of patients and would put up dengue express lanes in hospitals in the province. Carmela Reyes-Estrope
