Escape of wanted Korean from BI detention facility probed

IMMIGRATION Chief Siegfried Mison has ordered an investigation on the circumstances surrounding the escape of a Korean ward from the Bureau of Immigration’s (BI) Warden Facility in Bicutan Tuesday morning.

Cho Seongdae, an undesirable alien facing US$23,500 extortion case in Korea, was discovered missing around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Immigration spokesperson Elaine Tan said Commissioner Mison already ordered officers in the facility to submit their explanation about the incident.

Cho was arrested last Sept. 11 pursuant to a summary deportation order dated September 9, 2015. Aside from extortion, Cho also has a pending robbery case in Cavite.

“We are considering all angles to establish Cho’s whereabouts,” said Tan.

Tan added that the Secretary of Justice and the Korean embassy have been informed of the incident.
