SAYING that any person with a sound mind has an ambition, Manila Vice Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Thursday admitted that he has a dream of being mayor of the nation’s capital city, but cited one reason why he would not pursue it.
Noting that “political indifferences” caused Manila to “deteriorate” in the past, Domagoso said he wants to continue serving his constituents but added that he does not want to interrupt Mayor Joseph Estrada’s intention to continue existing reforms.
“Well, lahat tayo may pangarap… Sa akin, totoong gusto kong mag-mayor. Nahihiya naman ako sa mga taga-Maynila baka sabihin nila ayaw kong mag-mayor. Totoo ‘yan, pero kung ’yan ang magiging bahagi ng pagkakahiwalay ng lahat, then I would rather stop and let Mayor Erap continue his term,” Domagoso said in an interview with ANC’s Beyond Politics.
Estrada, who beat former Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim in the 2013 elections, had previously expressed his intention to run for a second term in 2016.
The vice mayor said he will not go against Estrada’s plans so as not to destroy the supposed coherence of the present city council.
“Ang iniiwasan ko kasi, ’yung aming pagkaka-baha-bahagi sa Maynila. Isa ’yan sa mga dahilan kung bakit nabulok kami sa Maynila. Biruin mo, nanalo mayor, iba vice mayor, iba konsehal. Sabog-sabog eh. This time, it happened na diretso. Pati council got elected unanimously with the members, so in line with the policy of the mayor,” Domagoso said.
Domagoso added that Estrada had already been implementing the same vision that he has for Manila.
“I think he’s doing good with our physical problems being solved… Ayoko namang i-disturb ’yun. Why? Eh ’yun din naman ang intensyon ko sa Maynila eh. Kung ’yung intensyon ko ginagawa naman na niya, then ako naman ay magpaparaya,” Domagoso said.
“Eh what will happen to me? Eh, ako, pwede naman akong mag-PMA. ‘Pahinga Muna, Anak.’ Marami pa naman akong birthday, 40 anyos pa lang naman ako,” he added in jest.
Domagoso is reported to be eyeing a Senate post in the 2016 elections. Yuji Vincent Gonzales
