Aquino: Leni Robredo has sacrificed a lot already

Would it be too much to ask Camarines Sur Representative Leni Robredo to run as Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II’s running mate in the 2016 national elections?

President Benigno Aquino III on Tuesday didn’t answer directly but said the widow of former Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo has done a lot for the country already.

“Marami nang sinacrifice si Leni (Leni has sacrificed a lot)…I owe it to her. If Mar decides it’s Leni we talk to Leni before we talk to anybody else,” he said during the Meet Inquirer Multimedia forum.

He said he didn’t want to “add pressure” to Robredo.

Robredo is among the personalities supposedly being considered to run as Roxas’ vice president.

However, her children have been convincing her against running for higher office.

Robredo earlier said that she is more interested in running for the Senate or seeking re-election. She said she will only run as vice president if there were no other eligible candidates.

A civil society group has already launched a “Leni Robredo for Vice President Movement” in case Senator Grace Poe decides to turn down Roxas’ offer for her to run as his running mate.
