PH has 5th worst traffic in the world—survey

The Philippines ranked 5th among countries with the worst traffic situation in the world, according to data released by crowd-sourcing survey site Numbeo.com.
In its midyear report, Numbeo said the Philippines, which ranked 9th in its January 2015 index, had a traffic index of 201.31.
Traffic index was defined by the site as a “composite index of time consumed in traffic due to job commute, estimation of time consumption dissatisfaction, CO2 consumption estimation in traffic and overall inefficiencies in the traffic system.”
According to the report, Egypt has the worst traffic situation in the world with an index of 284.51, followed by South Africa (215.34), Thailand (211.86), and Iran (202.90).
Other countries that broke into the top 10 were Turkey (198.61), Russia (195.51), India (195.02), Brazil (194.29), and Argentina (186.46).
The survey said the average “one-way time” that a commuter needs to transport in the Philippines is 46. 09 minutes.
The Philippines also recorded 4020.42 in the time exp. index subcategory, which is an estimation of “dissatisfaction due to long commutes.”
In the inefficiency index, an estimation of inefficiencies in the traffic, the country garnered a score of 216. 01.
Meanwhile, the Philippines, garnered 5947.27 in the CO2 emission index, or an estimation of carbon dioxide consumption due to traffic time.
Among 59 countries on the list, Austria has the best traffic flow in the world with a traffic index of 71, followed by Norway (74.54), Bosnia and Herzegovina (75.21), South Korea (76.02), and Switzerland (77.93).
The Philippine government has earned flak from motorists over the past months for the worsening traffic situation coupled with deteriorating mass transport systems in the National Capital Region.
Malacañang, meanwhile, has asked the commuting public for more patience as President Benigno Aquino III tapped the Philippine National Police’s Highway Patrol Group to lead traffic law enforcement in Edsa, Metro Manila’s busiest thoroughfare. Yuji Vincent Gonzales, INQUIRER.net
