Interior Secretary Mar Roxas is set to meet another coalition partner, the National Unity Party (NUP), Wednesday night.
In a press briefing on Tuesday, Cavite Rep. Elpidio Barzaga said the NUP was invited by Roxas in a meeting to discuss his platform of governance if he wins as President.
The meeting would be held at Gloria Maris in Cubao, Quezon City on Wednesday night, Barzaga said.
“Tomorrow night, we have scheduled a meeting with Mar Roxas. We would be listening to Secretary Mar, what would be his program of government, and what are his plans in the event he would be the President of the Philippines,” Barzaga said.
The NUP vice president said majority of the party members have expressed their support for Roxas, the anointed successor of President Benigno Aquino III of the Liberal Party (LP).
“I’ve always been saying publicly that I’m rooting for Mar Roxas… I have been talking to some of our members and most of us are supportive of Mar Roxas,” Barzaga said.
The NUP has 30 elected lawmakers in the House of Representatives, five or six provincial governors, and a number of city mayors, Barzaga said.
Roxas has been meeting with allied parties of the LP in a bid to prevent the administration coalition from splitting.
On Aug. 11, Roxas met with the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) to court the party. But later that night, NPC hosted Senators Grace Poe and Francis “Chiz” Escudero, who are being rooted for by majority of NPC members for the 2016 presidential elections.
