Wife held hostage, stabbed to death by husband in Olongapo City

A 38-year-old woman was killed on Wednesday after being stabbed 15 times by her own husband who held her hostage in their house in Barangay Old Cabalan, Olongapo City.

Senior Insp. Danilo Cañutal, commander of the Olongapo police’s Station 4, said victim Marivic Rodriguez died while being taken to the James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital on Wednesday morning.

Olongapo City councilor Jong Cortez said suspect Victor Rodriguez also had a stab wound on his abdomen, which was self-inflicted.

“Itinawag po ng mga kaanak nila ‘yung insidente, at nang rumesponde po ang mga pulis, nasaksak na ni Victor ang asawa niya. Napakiusapan din naman siyang sumuko, at nasa ospital din ngayon ang suspek kasi may isang saksak din siya,” Cortez said over Radyo Inquirer 990AM.

Policemen subdued Victor and found the bloodied Marivic on the floor.

Their relatives described Victor, a truck driver, as “mentally unstable.” The suspect’s mother, Angelita, said her son never left their house for three months before the hostage-taking incident because someone was supposedly running after him.
