Lanao matriarch Soraya Alonto-Adiong dies
MANILA, Philippines — Former Lanao del Sur Gov. Soraya Alonto-Adiong, mother of Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong, died on Dec. 27, just days before she was to turn 81 on Jan. 7.
In a statement, Speaker Martin Romualdez said Adiong’s passing was “a profound loss not only to her family but to the people she selflessly served.”
House leaders recognized the former governor’s critical role during the Marawi Siege, where she demonstrated exemplary leadership in coordinating with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and national agencies to protect civilians and ensure the safety of her constituents.

“Governor Adiong was a true mother to Lanao del Sur, especially during its most challenging moments. Her dedication to public service brought hope and stability to her people,” the House leaders said in a joint statement. —Krixia Subingsubing
