LOOK: Arroyo, Binay cross paths at Arturo Macapagal’s wake

Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo crossed paths with Vice President Jejomar Binay at the wake of Arroyo’s brother, Arturo Macapagal, at the Heritage Park on Tuesday. CONTRIBUTED PHOTO

Vice President Jejomar Binay and Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo met Tuesday afternoon during the wake of the former president’s brother, Arturo Macapagal, in Taguig City.

Arroyo, who is under hospital arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center for plunder, was allowed by the Sandiganbayan to attend the wake of Macapagal, who died Tuesday morning after battling stage 4 prostate cancer.

Speaking to reporters, former Candaba Mayor and Arroyo’s close ally, Jerry Pelayo, said Binay and the Pampanga lawmaker had a brief talk during the wake.

“Finally, we met again. At least I was able to finally see you, it’s been so long,” Binay supposedly told Arroyo, according to Pelayo.

Pelayo said Binay was shocked with the present condition of Arroyo, whom he described as weak and fragile.

“The president lost so much weight,” Binay supposedly said.

Pelayo said the two weren’t able to talk about the 2016 elections but said that Lakas-CMD, the political party of Arroyo, is open to supporting Binay’s presidential ambition.

“No final decision yet,” Pelayo said though.

Arroyo will be staying at Macapagal’s wake at the Heritage Park until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Aside from Binay, Also present at the wake were Arroyo’s husband Mike, their children, and Cavite Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla. JE
