A year since battling cancer, Miriam seeks ‘miracle’
Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago says she is seeking a “miracle” a year after she announced that she has stage 4 lung cancer.
In a statement on her Facebook page on Thursday, Santiago asked for the prayers of her supporters so that she can fully recover from the disease.
“I announced that I had lung cancer, stage four, exactly a year ago today. Please continue to pray with me and all cancer patients, as we vanquish this disease. #MiriamFight #HugsForMiriam #ThrowbackThursday,” the post read.
She also posted a “cancer miracle prayer for Miriam” invoking the intercession of St. Peregrine.
In the Roman Catholic faith, St. Peregrine is the patron saint of cancer patients.
In earlier interviews, the senator, known as the Iron Lady of Asia, said that she is doing well under medication.
Last January, she conveyed her intention to finish her term under qualified medical leave.
Santiago chairs the foreign affairs committee in the Senate.
She also continued to discharge her duties as a senator while on medical leave. Last Tuesday, she submitted Senate Resolution No. 1414, a Senate resolution signed by 13 senators challenging the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement, to the Supreme Court.
Also, “Stupid is Forevermore,” the sequel to her best-selling book “Stupid is Forever,” was published last month. IDL
