MANILA, Philippines –About 75 people have been evacuated from several areas in Benguet Saturday due to Typhoon Quiel (international codename: Nalgae), police said.
Chief Superintendent Elmer Soria, regional director of the Cordillera police, said that continuous rains pounding Benguet forced roughly 15 families, comprised of 75 individuals, to leave their homes and take shelter at the Twin Peaks National High School in Barangay Twin Peaks in Tuba, Benguet.
Soria added that rainfall recorded from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Benguet, where Signal No. 3 was hoisted, was around 90 millimeters.
He said that the Cordillera police have been on red alert status since Typhoon Pedring (international codename: Nesat).
Meanwhile, both the towns of Kalinga and Ifugao have no electricity because of the bad weather.
