Peña tells Makati City council: Recognize me as mayor
Peña issued the memorandum saying he now assumes the position as the city’s acting mayor after the Ombudsman suspended Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay for the allegedly overpriced Makati City Hall II.
He said all ordinances and documents that needed the signature of the mayor should be submitted to him.
A copy of the memorandum was also given to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Makati, Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP)-Makati branch, Civil Service Commission (CSC), Department of Finance (DOF) at Commission on Audit (COA).
In a letter to Landbank Makati, the DILG has said that the suspension for six months of Mayor Binay has removed his authority to sign city fund disbursements.
Binay remains holed up in the mayor’s office on the 21st floor of the Makati City Hall while Peña discharges his duties as acting mayor at a makeshift office along the hallway of the old city hall building.
