MANILA, Philippines — Stop this drama, Senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV said of Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay, who has been holed up in his office despite the six-month preventive suspension order by the Office of the Ombudsman.

“Itong si Mayor Junjun, itong dramang ito kailangang tumigil na,” (This drama should stop) Trillanes said in an interview at the Senate on Wednesday.

He added, “Kailangang maalala ng mga kababayan natin na itong mga itoy nagnakaw ng dadang-daang milyon sa kaban ng Makati tapos nagpapakita sila na para silang mga inonsente.” (People should remember that these people stole hundreds of millions from the coffers of Makati and yet they are feigning innocence.)

“Itong mga taong ito, deka-dekadang pinagsasamantalahan yung mga mahihirap sa Makati at ngayon nagdadrama pa nang ganito,” (For decades, these people have taken advantage of the poor in Makati and now they have this kind of drama.)

Trillanes initiated the Senate investigation on corruption allegations against the past and incumbent officials of Makati City, specifically members of the Binay family led by Vice President Jejomar “Jojo” Binay.

The senator reiterated that the suspended mayor was refusing to step down because he was still trying to reconcile documents to cover up irregularities in Makati.
