MANILA, Philippines—Typhoon Pedring left more than P200 million in damage to infrastructure in the city of Manila alone, city officials said Wednesday.
The estimate made by Manila city administrator Jesus Mari Marzan in an interview with the Inquirer was echoed by city engineer Armand Andres, who said that on Roxas Boulevard alone, around P30 million would be needed to repair a 750-meter section of sea wall that collapsed under pounding by big waves on Tuesday.
The engineer’s office was busy on Wednesday clearing rubble from Roxas Boulevard and uprooted trees along other roads.
All streets were already passable, Andres reported.
Marzan said the typhoon left no fatalities in the city.
He said the authorities planned to clear out evacuation centers, which housed around 5,000 residents mostly from Tondo coastal areas, by Wednesday afternoon.
