NBI files drug case against Bilibid inmate

MANILA, Philippines–The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has filed a drug complaint against an inmate of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) following a series of raids conducted by authorities since December that yielded prohibited items.

Jojo Baligad, a drug convict serving his sentence at the maximum security compound of the NBP, was charged with violating Sections 11 and 12 (possession of dangerous drugs and its equipment) of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 in the Muntinlupa City Prosecutors Office on Monday.

Baligad, a former US serviceman was convicted for drugs by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court. He is among the 20 inmates transferred from NBP to NBI after a December 15 raid that showed they were living lavish lifestyles inside the state penitentiary.

NBI Director Virgilio Mendez said most of the illegal drugs seized was found in Baligad’s cell.
