MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila will have good weather until Saturday, but moderate rains and moderate to occasionally strong winds will prevail on Sunday during Pope Francis’ visit, the state weather bureau said.

A special weather outlook for Metro Manila and Tacloban Papal Visit said good weather but light to moderate northeasterly winds with passing light rains are forecast in Metro Manila from Wednesday to Saturday (Jan. 14 to 17).

A tropical depression is seen to enter the Philippine area of responsibility by Wednesday night or Thursday and could affect Visayas and Mindanao.

Pope Francis will be in the country from Jan. 15 to 19 and will visit Leyte on Saturday, Jan. 17.

“Moderate to occasionally heavy rains and moderate to strong winds will prevail due to the aforementioned tropical cyclone which is expected to move closer towards the area. Thunderstorms are likely to occur,” the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in its forecast for Tacloban.

On Sunday, Pope Francis will meet the youth and religious leaders at the University of Santo Tomas and hold a Mass at Luneta in the afternoon.

By Sunday (Jan. 18), moderate rains and moderate to occasionally strong winds will prevail over Metro Manila as a possible tropical cyclone moves closer towards the eastern section of Southern Luzon, Pagasa said.

On Monday (Jan. 19), when the Pope is scheduled to leave the country, cloudy skies, light to moderate rains, and moderate winds will prevail over Metro Manila.
