Binay, Poe, Roxas lead new SWS poll

MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Jejomar Binay, Senator Grace Poe and Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II emerged as the people’s top three choices most likely to succeed President Benigno Aquino III in 2016, a new Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showed.

Binay led the survey with 37 percent, followed by Poe with 21 percent and Roxas with 19 percent, the poll results which were posted on the BusinessWorld website said.

The survey conducted among 1,800 respondents nationwide had sampling error margins of ±2% for national percentages; ±6% each for Metro Manila, “Balance Luzon” and Mindanao; and ±3% for the Visayas.

The question asked to the respondents was: “According to the Constitution, the term of Pres. Noynoy Aquino is up to 2016 only, and there will be an election for a new president in May 2016. Who do you think are the good leaders who should succeed Pres. Aquino as president? You may give up to three names.”

The respondents were not given a list of names to choose from.

Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. (2 percent)

Rehab czar Panfilo Lacson (2 percent)

Sen. Loren Legarda (1 percent)

Senate Pres. Franklin Drilon (1 percent)

Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan (1 percent)

Sarangani Representative Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao (1 percent)

The SWS noted that eight percent had no one to recommend while 15 percent could not give an answer.

Binay said he was “honored and humbled” by the poll results.

“I am grateful for  the kind  recognition of  my  worthiness  to assume the country’s highest public office.  To my fellow Filipinos, thank you very much for this warm Christmas greeting,” he said in a statement.
