Binay admits being affected by allegations, still considers ratings decline ‘good’

MANILA, Philippines — Saying he is not a hypocrite, Vice President Jejomar Binay recognized on Wednesday that the drop in his ratings in the latest Pulse Asia survey was the effect of continued corruption allegations being hurled against him.
“Itong bagay na ito,magiging ipokrito ako kung sasabihin kong hindi ako tinamaan dito, hindi tinamaan ang pamilya ko,” Binay said in an interview over DWIZ.
(I would be a hypocrite if I would say that I and my family are not affected by (the allegations against me).)
“Kahit na papaano tao ka rin e, (hindi) imortal, na sobra na , na nagigipit ka, nagagalit ka,” he said.
(I am human; not immortal. I get to the boiling point when I say enough is enough.)
Binay issued the statement when sought to comment on the 5-percentage point drop in his presidential preference ratings from 31 percent last September to 26 percent in the latest survey conducted by the polling firm from Nov. 14 to 20.
But if he were to assess the drop from “good,” “better” and” best,” Binay considered the 5-point decrease a “good” development.
“Good e bababa pero hindi kalakihan, better, same number 31, pero best tumaas. So ang nangyari e good. It would have been bad kung double digit…” he explained.
(Good if my ratings declined but not too much, better if I retained my 31-percent rating, and best if it improved. What happened was good. It would have been bad if I suffered a double-digit decline.)
Despite his ratings drop, Binay insisted that there was no need for him to attend the Senate inquiry into the allegedly anomalous construction of the Makati City Hall 2 parking building and other alleged irregularities he purportedly committed when he was still the mayor of Makati City.
The investigation by the Senate blue ribbon subcommittee was temporarily suspended to pave way for the approval of the proposed 2015 national budget.
Binay though said the suspension of the hearing was not a ceasefire because of the Christmas season, saying his accusers had nothing more against him.
“Hindi naman ito ceasefire because of the season. Ito’y nag ceasefire dahil naubusan lang sila…naghahanap pa uli ng kasinungalingan…” he pointed out.
(This is not a ceasefire because of the season. This is a ceasefire because they have run out of accusations. They are still looking for more lies to spread.)
