MANILA, Philippines—Justice Secretary Leila de Lima has approved the mandatory drug testing of all guards assigned at the New Bilibid Prisons as part of the government’s effort to stop the illegal drugs operation in the national penitentiary.

There will also be a reshuffle of guards in all NBP camps (minimum, medium and maximum security), Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Franklin Jesus Bucayu said.

De Lima said she was closely monitoring the actions taken by the BuCor to stop illegal activities inside the NBP.

“More operations shall be undertaken successively in the coming days and weeks. We are now adopting a policy of zero tolerance vis-a-vis such nefarious activities,” De Lima said.

“BuCor officials and personnel found to be aiding or abetting such activities shall be severely dealt with,” De Lima added.
