Binay eyes Grace Poe as vice presidential running mate

MANILA, Philippines—Vice President Jejomar  Binay, who has declared his  intention to run for president in 2016,  said he is considering Senator Grace Poe as his vice presidential running mate.

“Oo. Alam mo naman sa pulitika, everything is possible,” Binay said in an interview on Thursday when asked if he was open for a possible tandem with   Poe.

Poe, who topped the senatorial  race when she first ran  in 2013,  has repeatedly told reporters  that she has no plans for 2016. But her name has been  mentioned by political analysts as possible candidate for either president or vice president.

Binay and Poe were both present at the 40th b top-level  management conference of the Kapisanan  ng Brodkaster ng Pilipinas held  in Cavite.

The Vice President used the occasion to apologize for withdrawing from the November 27 debate with  Senator Antonio Trillanes  IV, which was arranged by the KBP.

“Hihingi na lang ako ng dispensa. This is a formal apology to the members of KBP,” Binay said in his speech.

“I know you have prepared for this, you have prepared your members if there would be such a thing. Pero ganoon po ang pangyayari. Sorry, hindi po tayo matutuloy sa harapang iyon… Again, my apologies,” he added.

He remained confident though that decision to withdraw from the debate would not make a dent in his political career.

“‘Yung nagsasabi ng totoo can never affect your political career,” said  the Vice  President, who has been at the limelight  in connection with at the alleged overpriced Makati City Hall2 parking building  and for allegedly using dummies to  hide  his  supposed unexplained  wealth.
