Binay eyes Grace Poe as vice presidential running mate
MANILA, Philippines—Vice President Jejomar Binay, who has declared his intention to run for president in 2016, said he is considering Senator Grace Poe as his vice presidential running mate.
“Oo. Alam mo naman sa pulitika, everything is possible,” Binay said in an interview on Thursday when asked if he was open for a possible tandem with Poe.
Poe, who topped the senatorial race when she first ran in 2013, has repeatedly told reporters that she has no plans for 2016. But her name has been mentioned by political analysts as possible candidate for either president or vice president.
Binay and Poe were both present at the 40th b top-level management conference of the Kapisanan ng Brodkaster ng Pilipinas held in Cavite.
The Vice President used the occasion to apologize for withdrawing from the November 27 debate with Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, which was arranged by the KBP.
“Hihingi na lang ako ng dispensa. This is a formal apology to the members of KBP,” Binay said in his speech.
Article continues after this advertisement“I know you have prepared for this, you have prepared your members if there would be such a thing. Pero ganoon po ang pangyayari. Sorry, hindi po tayo matutuloy sa harapang iyon… Again, my apologies,” he added.
Article continues after this advertisementHe remained confident though that decision to withdraw from the debate would not make a dent in his political career.
“‘Yung nagsasabi ng totoo can never affect your political career,” said the Vice President, who has been at the limelight in connection with at the alleged overpriced Makati City Hall2 parking building and for allegedly using dummies to hide his supposed unexplained wealth.
Binay has repeatedly denied all allegations being hurled at him.
