Senate Blue Ribbon Committee formally invites Binay to probe
MANILA, Philippines–The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee has sent a formal invitation to Vice President Jejomar Binay to attend its hearing next week on the allegedly overpriced Makati City Hall 2 parking building.
“The committee on accountability of public officers and investigations would like to reiterate our invitation to his Excellency to make an appearance in a public hearing on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. to be held at the Senate plenary hall, Senate of the Philippines, GSIS Building, Pasay City…” Senator Teofisto “TG” Guingona III, chairman of the committee, said in his letter to Binay dated October 28, 2014.
An email from Guingona’s office said the invitation was received this Wednesday morning by the Office of the Vice President.
Binay had earlier refused to accept the invitation of the Blue Ribbon subcommittee being headed by Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, which has been investigating the parking building controversy.
The Vice President has repeatedly denied any irregularities in the project, which was constructed when he was still the mayor of Makati City in 2007 but was only completed in 2013 during the time of his son and incumbent mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay.
