MANILA, Philippines — Senator Grace Poe said the Senate committee on public order that she chairs would recommend to the Office of the Ombudsman a further investigation of the head of the Philippine National Police.
PNP Director General Alan Purisima was put into the limelight over the questionable construction of the so-called White House in Camp Crame and for allegedly acquiring unexplained wealth.
Po noted “inconsistencies” in Purisima’s testimony when he appeared at the Senate hearing.
And after conducting one hearing, Poe said her committee would recommend, among others, a full blown investigation of Purisima by the Ombudsman.
“Initially, we’re thinking of the DOJ (Department of Justice) but I think the Ombudsman is the appropriate agency,” she said when asked what agency should investigate Purisima.
Asked if she was convinced that there were irregularities with Purisima’s source of income, the senator said: “Oo, kumbinsido naman ako.”
But she said she would like the appropriate agencies to further look into the allegations against the PNP chief so the latter could explain his side.
