Trillanes: I want Binay in jail

MANILA, Philippines —Senator Antonio Trillanes IV was cold to an impeachment move against Vice President Jejomar Binay, saying he would rather see him behind bars.

“I’m not inclined kasi impeachment is a political exercise. I’m looking at the legal exercise than the political one, which is Sandiganbayan. Kung kulong, kulong. Yun ang gusto ko,” Trillanes told reporters on Wednesday when asked about an impeachment move being floated by some administration allies at the House of Representatives.

“Hindi ako masyadong gaanong concern sa impeachment kasi mas gusto kong makulong sya e,” he added.

In fact, he said, he would discourage people from initiating an impeachment complaint against Binay so he would face the criminal court.

“Pero kung ma-impeach para maibestigahan din nila sa baba pero hindi kami hihinto dito,” Trillanes said, referring to the  ongoing investigation of the Senate  blue ribbon subcommittee into  the allegedly anomalous construction of Makati City Hall 2 parking building  involving the  Vice  President.

The  subcommittee being headed  by Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel  III is tentatively  set to resume its hearing  next week with  businessman Antonio Tiu, who was allegedly used  by Binay as  front for his 350-hectare  property in Batangas, invited to appear before the body.

Trillanes initiated the Makati parking building probe in the Senate, but the inquiry has expanded to other issues, including  the alleged unexplained wealth of Binay and his family.
