MANILA, Philippines – With a quick shift in direction, Tropical Storm “Mario” prompted the weather bureau on Thursday morning to raise public storm warning signal over several areas.
In its bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration placed Catanduanes, Isabela, Aurora and Cagayan, including Calayan group of Islands under Signal No. 1.
“Mario” packs maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of 80 kph.
Pagasa said that “Mario” follows a west northwest track and was approaching Northern Luzon at a pace of 24 kph.
“Mario” was last spotted at 8:00 a.m. Thursday at 477 km east of Virac, Catanduanes.
