Antiwater wastage ordinance introduced in QC

MANILA, Philippines–What will they think of next?

On the heels of an ordinance requiring restaurants in Quezon City to offer half-cup servings of rice to customers comes a measure which, if approved, will make it mandatory for them to serve water only if patrons ask for it.

“Water is a very important resource, hence, measures should be adopted to promote its conservation, prevent its wastage and avert the looming water crisis,” said Councilor Franz Pumaren in his “Anti-Water Wastage” ordinance submitted for first reading on Monday.

In the draft measure, Pumaren warned of the decline in the water elevation of Angat Dam, the main source of domestic water supply in Metro Manila. The ordinance would cover restaurants, hotels, inns, canteens, steakhouses, eateries and other food joints operating within the city.–Jaymee T. Gamil
