Today, Sept. 15, is the 72nd death anniversary of the late playwright and writer Severino Reyes. Known as the Father of the Modern Tagalog Drama, he became popular for his “Lola Basyang” stories. He also founded the widely circulated and popular magazine “Liwayway” before he became its first editor and, eventually, a director. Reyes was born in Sta. Cruz, Manila, on Feb. 11, 1861.
