Police arrest 365 for biking with no helmet during 3 days

MANILA, Philippines— A total of 365 people throughout the country were apprehended for violation of the “no helmet, no travel” policy during a three-day period from September 19 to 21, a report of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

The PNP report, released on Thursday, said those arrested included four PNP employees and one Armed Forces of the Philippines member from the National Capital Region (NCR).

Region 3 (Central Luzon) topped the list of violators of the policy, with 81, and NCR came second with 47 people arrested for traveling on bike with no helmet.

The same report also stated that a total of 69 drivers nationwide were apprehended for traveling in vehicles bearing no license plates during the same period.

The wearing of protective helmets while driving is mandated by the “Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009,” while the “no plate no travel” policy is in accordance with the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.—Jamie Marie Elona
