/ 04:34 AM August 19, 2014

National Tuberculosis Day is celebrated every Aug. 19 by virtue of Proclamation No. 840 signed by President Fidel Ramos on July 30, 1996. Based on the 2007 Philippine National Tuberculosis Prevalence Survey, there were approximately three cases of tuberculosis out of every 1,000 people. In 2009, 25,000 registered deaths were attributed to tuberculosis while in 2011, it was the fourth-leading cause of mortality in the country.–Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
