Nancy Binay: Opposition won’t support unlawful means to oust Aquino

MANILA, Philippines–Senator Nancy Binay said the opposition will not support any “unconstitutional means” to overthrow President Benigno Aquino III and distanced it from the reported destabilization plot against the present administration.
“I think kami sa opposition will not support any unconstitutional means. And even nga kahit na ‘yung impeachment, ‘yung UNA (United Nationalist Alliance) will not support so what more pa itong coup?” Binay told reporters on Wednesday.
(I think we in the opposition will not support any unconstitutional means. We won’t even support his impeachment, what more this coup?)
Besides, the senator saw no basis to destabilize the Aquino administration, citing the support it has been giving to the military.
Binay said no less than the President himself enumerated his administration’s support to the military during his State Of the Nation Address last Monday.
“So I don’t any reason bakit kailangan may (why there is a need for) grumbling,” she said.
Binay said even the corruption allegations against some of Aquino’s men were not enough “justifications” to launch a coup.
The senator also distanced the opposition from any such plot against Aquino.
She noted that the opposition has been consistent in fighting former President and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo ever since she took over the presidency in 2001 from then President Joseph Estrada.
Retired generals closed to Arroyo were the ones allegedly planning a coup against Aquino.
Asked again if the opposition would not support any destabilization plot against Aquino even if her father, Vice President Jejomar Binay, may benefit from it, the lady senator said: “Oo, kasi dalawang taon na lang naman. Malapit na ngayong election e (Yes ‘cause we only have two years to wait before the elections). So I don’t see why kailangang ma-fast track…”
