MANILA, Philippines–-The impeachment complaints against President Benigno Aquino III might not get the support of the Nacionalista Party (NP), which is still in coalition with the administration, Senator Cynthia Villar said on Wednesday.

Villar is the wife of NP president Manny Villar whom Aquino beat in the 2010 elections. The group has 25 members in the House of Representatives and six in the Senate, including Mrs. Villar.

Though the NP has no official stand yet on Aquino’s impeachment complaints, the lady senator noted that the group stills belongs to the administration coalition.

“Hindi pa sila nag-uusap but I would think ‘yun ang stand nila. Hindi ko pa alam kasi walang naguusap du’n kasi even the ones who filed (the complaints) said it will be very difficult,” she said.

(They (members) haven’t talked yet, but I would think that that is their stand. I still don’t know because no one’s talking yet since the ones who filed (the complaints) said it would be very difficult.)

And as long as the NP is allied with the administration, Mrs. Villar said the President could rely on their group unless it changes its course.

But as a whole, tingin ko naman they will support the President pero syempre kung may mga member kami who feel strongly about certain issues we allow naman them to exercise their own prerogative,” she said.

(Of course every person who belongs to a party and still has a personal decision, will still be allowed to make his own personal decision. But as a whole, I think they will support the president, but if we have members who feel strongly about certain issues, we allow them to exercise their own prerogative.)
