MANILA, Philippines–Local governments in Laguna, Batangas, Cavite and Quezon provinces have suspended classes in all levels on Tuesday due to expected heavy rains spawned by the southwest monsoon, or habagat.
“Classes in all levels in Laguna is suspended tomorrow, July 22, 2014. This is due to expected heavy rains brought by habagat, ” Laguna Governor Ramil Hernandez posted on Twitter Monday afternoon.
De La Salle University – Dasmariñas in Cavite also announced the suspension of classes on Tuesday due to “anticipated flooding in some areas.”
Earlier Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla suspended classes in all levels in his province due to the possibility of severe flooding.
Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos-Recto announced over the radio the suspension of classes in all levels in her area of jurisdiction.
Quezon Gov. David Suarez likewise cited heavy to torrential rain expected as the basis for suspending classes in the province.
Monsoon rains enhanced by Typhoon Henry (international name: Matmo) are forecast in Metro Manila, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) and Visayas on Tuesday.–Frances Mangosing
